Billboard advertising has to master the art of reasonable reduction: „Keep it short and simple“

The viewer should be able to get the advertising message fast and clearly , even from long distances. A concise choice of words, distinct contrasts, easily understandable headlines and only the most relevant images are recommended for designs. That is why the formula for billboard design is called "Kiss".

In production and practice good designs also consider the special features of advertising mediums. Large-scale billboards consist of two or more parts, which creates trimmed edges. Another example are terminal blocks in showcases which need billboard edges on all sides. In this case the difference between visual- and printing measurement needs to be considered in design .
